Albert Roosenboom Oil Painting Children “The Little Gardeners” 19th Belgian School Gilt Frame circa 1880

1,850.00

Albert Roosenboom (1845-1893), 19th century Belgian school, “The Little Gardeners”, oil on wood signed lower right with magnificent original gilded wooden frame.

Albert Roosenboom was a student of the famous Belgian painter and sculptor Emile Meunier. Unlike his master, whose work focused on the life of the working classes, Roosenboom preferred to paint narrative genre scenes with elegant women and children as protagonists.
His works, in addition to their artistic merits, are also admired for the insight they provide into the fashions, interiors and daily life of the second half of the 19th century. From 1869, Albert Roosenboom participated in exhibitions in Brussels, Ghent and London.
Roosenboom’s production is expressed in small oil paintings, on wood or canvas, delightful scenes animated by children impeccably dressed according to the fashion of the time. In the Flemish manner, Roosenboom paints with an abundance of detail and with great wit capturing the innate ability of children to imitate adults.
