The Importance of Proper Shipping

What we’ve learned from our extensive online sales experience is the importance of proper shipping. It seems like a simple concept, but when it comes to entrusting an ancient work of art, with all its history and fragility, to a complete stranger who will ferry it around the world, things get complicated.
The first thing we learned is that proper shipping begins with proper packaging. The material we use to package the crates, OSB (Oriented Strand Board), was chosen after several trials with other materials. These engineered wood panels are made by gluing and pressing together wood chips or lamellae (long, thin shavings) arranged in crisscrossing layers, providing high mechanical strength and stability; the same materials used in construction. Inside the crates, the best solution remains polystyrene, which absorbs shock perfectly. The crates must be slightly larger than the item, so they fit perfectly, like a shoe, and avoid unnecessary and damaging internal movements.
Then there’s the choice between various shipping companies: for smaller items, MBE remains an excellent solution, acting as a bridge between major couriers and ensuring very rapid delivery times. For fragile or bulky goods, however, a trusted carrier is essential, someone who personally comes to load the item and delivers it to the customer. Delivery times in these cases are considerably longer, because the logistics of the owners are not those of the courier, but you know the person to whom you’ve entrusted the goods and know that they will arrive at their destination.
