A rare small alcove cartel clock by Clément Fiacre, Regency period, circa 1730. Complete with its base.

The violin-shaped case features a particularly refined Boulle tortoisedhell marquetry decoration of scrolls and acanthus leaves, according to Jean Bérain. Richly decorated with original, finely chased and gilded bronze mounts, including two cherubs brandishing scythes, symbolizing the passage of time. The back of the case is adorned with a trompe-l’œil perspective simulating the floor of a palace. The upper part is domed. The dial is made of finely chased and engraved brass, with twelve white enamel cartouches indicating the hours in Roman numerals.

Original three-bell movement, suspended by a silk cord.

Striking on demand by a cord for the hours, half-hours, and quarter-hours.

Dial and movement signed “Fiacre Clément à Paris”. Original pendulum and key.

The clock is already in working order, but if the customer wishes, we can have it serviced by our watchmaker before shipping. Complete with its original bracket. Case in very good condition.

Biography: Clément Fiacre (died in Paris in 1758). He was one of the most important Parisian watchmakers of the first half of the 18th century. After his ordination as a master watchmaker on January 16, 1714, he acquired a great reputation and established his own workshop on Rue Saint-Denis around the mid-1740s (see Tardy, Dictionnaire des horlogers français, Paris, 1971, p. 131). Two of his sons, François Fiacre and Claude, continued the business of their father’s workshop until the beginning of the reign of Louis XVI.
