Suite of 4 Vases in Repoussé and Gilded Copper, Rome, Renaissance

Two pairs of embossed and gilded copper vases with gilt bronze applications, Roman Renaissance goldsmithery, 16th century.

Coming out of a sumptuous Roman residence in via del Corso, the four vases excel for the quality of the manufacture both in the embossed copper and in the chisels of the bronze: the faces of the grotesque masks that animate the handles are of an irreproachable quality.
The use of copper and gilded bronze in goldsmithing dates back to ancient times and reaches its maximum splendor in the Renaissance; In any case, artifacts of this kind remain very rare objects, as they were intended for a small and very wealthy public: finding two pairs intact is more unique than rare.
