Rare pair of magnificent 19th century Florentine chairs in blackened fruit wood and hard stone marquetry and precious marbles.

The marble commesso becomes a refined artistic technique in Florence with which sumptuous furnishings are made: table tops, cabinets, cupboards, liturgical furniture … In 1588 Ferdinando I of ‘Medici created in Florence the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, bringing together the various craftsmen active for the Florentine Court in a single state factory, in particular the mosaicists and the hard stone sculptors.
Furniture less impressive, but of the highest quality, they were produced over the centuries, also following the variation of tastes until the end of the 19th century.
