Early 19th French School Pair of Marble Busts from the Restoration period

12,000.00

Impressive pair of white marble busts, France, circa 1820.

The large size gives us an idea of the high social position occupied by this noble couple: richly dressed according to the fashion of the time, the lady with a complicated and voluminous curly hairstyle and he with flowing hair and an unbuttoned shirt, free from the rigid martial collars in vogue under the Emperor.
The two busts are magnificently carved from a single block of white marble and both rest on parallelepiped bases.
