Early 19th Century Large Empire Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock


Large Empire mantel clock in finely chiseled and gilded bronze representing Cupid and Psyche.
Psyche, sitting on an armchair, intends to write on a slate the phrase “we love you and we run away from you …” while Cupid hands him a chalk.
Below, an amphora and a brazier border the dial, enamelled porcelain, resting on a base with bas-relief and lion’s legs.
This pendulum model is illustrated on page 393 of: Kjellberg Pierre, The French clock, Paris, Editions de l’Amateur, 1997.
The gilding is entirely original, mercury, and in excellent condition. The mechanism is complete and original, with suspension wire, accompanied by the pendulum and key. On request the clock is delivered completely revised by specialized watchmaker.
