Ferdinand Heilbuth, born in Hamburg in 1826, died in Pairs in 1889, is a French painter of German origin. Painter of genre, pupil of Charles Gleyre and Paul Delaroche, he participates in the Salons of French Artists several times with historical works, much appreciated by the public and the critics. From 1868, the artist turned to landscape painting and exhibited at the Salon “At the edge of water”.
In search of a clearer palette, more bucolic style, he frequents the guinguettes of the banks of the Seine, befriends Sisley, Monet and also Manet …. His style is moving towards the expression of light and atmospheric variations and he paints mainly on the banks of the Seine.
