18th Neoclassical Italian Marble Buste Antiochus III

1,200.00

Neoclassical marble bust depicting Antiochus III known as the Great, Rome, late 18th century.
In the second half of the 18th century, rich European aristocrats embarked on a long journey of knowledge in the main Italian cities to discover and admire their artistic heritage. The Roman and Florentine sculpture workshops then gave rise to the production of small busts depicting sovereigns and leaders of classical antiquity that the aristocrats loved to buy as travel “souvenirs”.
Our bust presumably depicts Antiochus III the Great, a Hellenistic ruler.
Beautiful original patina, small faults and signs of aging that do not disfigure its austere beauty.
