18th century rare polychrome marble and porphyry Roman emperor bust

6,500.00

Rare polychrome bust representing the Roman Emperor Costantin I, Rome, late 18th century.

Porphyry head with painted eyes, bust in Medici breach. On a Portoro marble plinth.

Small busts of emperors were first made in Rome in the 18th century. They were made to order and being the most luxurious full color models are extremely rare. To compensate for their rarity in recent years, many modern reproductions have become widespread. I would therefore like to clarify that this is an original bust with a certificate of authenticity.
