18th century, Italian Marble Sculptur Resurrected Christ


Sculpture representing the resurrected Christ in white Carrara marble, Italy, 18th century.

According to Catholic tradition, Christ is depicted standing, on a cloud, as if he were rising above the world; naked, with one hand supports the cross and a cloth covering the belly while the other is raised as a sign of blessing. The eyes look down, the wounds of the cross are visible on his body.

Similar examples are found in Venetian sculpture between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
