17th Italy Silk Engraving in Guilloche Molded Frame

2,200.00

Rare 17th century silk engraving contained in its magnificent molded frame with original guilloché decoration.

This magnificent engraving represents the Madonna della Guardia venerated in the Sanctuary of Rivarolo, near Genoa. At the bottom right, you can still see, unfortunately illegible, the engraver’s signature.
Seventeenth-century silk engravings often came from Bologna, a city where, since the previous century, a thriving business related to the production of this precious fabric had spread.

The silk is in an excellent state of preservation, thanks to the fact that it has never been removed from its holder: it is still enclosed under the original 17th century glass. The frame is of a quality equal to the magnificence of silk, in richly molded wood with complete guilloché decoration of its hook.
