17th Century Flemish School, Workshop Of Frans Snyders, Pair Of Hunting Scene
“Hunting scene with dogs”, pair of oil on copper paintings, Flemish school of the 17th century, workshop Frans Snyders.
Frans Snyders or Snijders (Antwerp, 11 November 1579 – 19 Aug. 1657) is a Flemish Baroque painter, pupil of Pieter Bruegel the Younger and Hendrick van Balen, specializing in still life and animal painting. 1597 under the leadership of Peter II Bruegel. In 1610, he participated in the important workshop of Rubens. From 1636, he produced sixty hunting scenes for Philip IV of Spain, destined for his hunting lodge the Tower of Parada, now destroyed, and for the Royal Palace of Madrid. He led an important workshop to answer his orders for paintings. His production consists mainly of still lifes and hunting scenes, to which he conferred a new monumentality. He ennobles his subject, animates it with a baroque breath and in rhythm the masses according to simple schemas, chanted by some diagonals that he presses horizontals. It expands the space and fills it in all directions. To the descriptive tendency, he opposes, without losing anything in clarity or in monumental evidence, a dynamic vision.
Our compositions are the work of an artist of the workshop of Frans Snyders, full of this dynamism so dear to the master: the dogs jump, according to the composition, on the deer or on the wolf, some fall, the others arrive the others, wounded, lie on the ground in a grimace of pain. The bright red of the blood, the color of the furs of the dogs enliven the scene surrounded by the dark green of the forest.
