6,500.00

Marble bust depicting a young woman with a laurel wreath, Baroque Bolognese, 17th century.

The work of great value of this bust is similar to that of Alessandro Algardi (1598-1654), sculptor of Bologna. Educated at the Academy of Ludovico Carracci in Bologna, he settled very early in Rome, where he deepened his knowledge of the classical heritage and underwent its influence at the figurative level.

The young woman could be Clio, the muse of epic poetry and history, often depicted with a laurel wreath and eyes turned to the sky.
