16th Century Italian Tuscany Gilt Wood Cassetta Frame


Rare frame called cassetta Tuscan molded wood blackened and gilded, Florence, 16th century.
Finely decorated in gold with plant motif.
This typical Tuscany frame is circumscribed to the area between Florence and Siena. Tuscany is known in the history of art as the cradle of the most beautiful frames; Already beginning in the 13th century, many models follow one another, following the evolution of painting. The Cassetta frame is produced from the Renaissance, after the mid-15th century: the beginning of secular painting, especially portraits, makes it necessary to develop a simple and linear frame, far from the glories of gothic ecclesiastical frames.
