16th century, Alabaster of Malines, Jacob Verhulst

4,800.00

Pair of alabaster reliefs depicting scenes from the Crucifixion, Mechelen, early 16th century.
The very scenographic staging of the scene and the refined plasticity of the figures, which are superimposed, make these reliefs comparable to the work of Jacob Verhulst, a sculptor active in Mechelen at the beginning of the 16th century.

Old restorations. One of the two reliefs still has the original oak support.
Enclosed in 18th century frames, probably added at the time of restoration.
